J. Eugene "Gene" Brierre, M.D.  |

Dr. Brierre joined LOA in 1993. He grew up in Lafayette, graduating from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in 1983 with a BS in Biology/Chemistry. He attended medical school at Louisiana State University Medical Center in Shreveport, graduating in 1987. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Oncology at the University of Alabama, finishing in 1993. Dr. Brierre is board certified in Medical Oncology and Internal Medicine. He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, American College of Physicians, Louisiana State Medical Society, Lafayette Parish Medical Society, and the Louisiana Oncology Society.
Dr. Brierre sees patients at our Lafayette office on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday and at our Crowley office on Tuesday.

David Rinaldi, M.D  |

Dr. Rinaldi joined LOA in 1996. He is a native of Rhode Island and received his BS in Biology from Providence College in 1982. He attended medical school at the University of Vermont, graduating in 1986. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine and a combined Hematology /Oncology fellowship at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, finishing in 1993. He spent 1993-1996 as a research fellow in the Investigational Drug Development Program at Brooke. Dr. Rinaldi is board certified in Medical Oncology, Hematology, and Internal Medicine. He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association, the Louisiana Oncology Society, the Southern Oncology Association, the Louisiana State Medical Society, the Lafayette Parish Medical Society, and Iberia Parish Medical Society.
Dr. Rinaldi sees patients at our New Iberia office Monday thru Thursday.

James Cole, M.D.  |

Dr. Cole joined LOA in 1997. He grew up in Lafayette, graduating from Louisiana State University with a BA in History in 1987. He attended medical school at Louisiana State University Medical Center in Shreveport, graduating in 1991. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine and a combined fellowship in Hematology and Oncology at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, finishing in 1997. Dr. Cole is board certified in Medical Oncology, Hematology, and Internal Medicine. He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Hematology, the American Medical Association, the American College of Physicians, the Louisiana Oncology Society, the Southern Oncology Association, Louisiana State Medical Society, Lafayette Parish Medical Society, and the American College of Physician Executives.
Dr. Cole sees patients at our Lafayette office on Tuesday and Thursday and at our Opelousas office on Monday and Wednesday.

Karen Roden, M.D.  |

Dr. Roden joined LOA in 2001. She is a native of Kentucky and she received her BS in Biochemistry from David Lipscomb College. She attended medical school at Vanderbilt School of Medicine in Nashville. She served in the U.S. Army and completed her residency and fellowship in Oncology/hematology at Brooke Army Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston in Texas. Dr. Roden is board certified in Medical Oncology, Hematology, and Internal Medicine. She is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Medical Association, the American College of Physicians, the Louisiana Oncology Society, the Louisiana State Medical Association, and the Lafayette Parish Medical Society.
Dr. Roden sees patients at our Lafayette office on Tuesday and Friday and in our Crowley office on Monday and Thursday.

Chancellor Donald, M.D.  |

Dr. Donald joined the staff of LOA in 2010. Dr. Donald received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University in 1998. In 2003, he earned his MD degree from the University of Miami School of Medicine. In 2006, Dr. Donald completed his Internal Medicine Residency training at Tulane University School of Medicine. Dr. Donald completed his Hematology/Oncology fellowship at Tulane University of School of Medicine in June of 2010. Dr. Donald is board certified in Medical Oncology, Hematology, and Internal Medicine. He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Society of Hematology.
Dr. Donald sees patients in our Lafayette office on Monday and Wednesday and in our Opelousas office on Tuesday and Thursday.

Eric Buller is one of our two certified Physician's Assistants. While mainly assisting in seeing patients, he is also integrally involved in ongoing research studies. He trained at LSUMC in Shreveport. Eric works with Dr. Brierre at our Lafayette and Crowley offices.
Felicia Case is one of our two certified Physician's Assistants. While mainly assisting in seeing patients, she is also integrally involved in ongoing research studies. She trained at the University of Texas at Galveston. Felicia works with Dr. Cole and Dr. Donald in our Opelousas office.

Rachel Cunningham, APRN, FNP-BC is certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She trained at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette. Rachel works with Dr. Roden in our Crowley and Lafayette offices.
Sydney Jo Leblanc, APRN, FNP-BC is certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She trained at the University of Louisiana-Lafayette and University of South Alabama. Sydney Jo works with Dr. Rinaldi in our New Iberia office.
Natalie Broussard, APRN, FNP-C is certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She trained at the Northwestern State University. Natalie works with Dr. Cole and Dr. Donald in our Lafayette office.

Belinda Burgess, RN, BSN, OCN, MT (ASCP) is the clinical nurse manager for LOA. Belinda has a nursing degree as well as a degree in medical technology. She coordinates and manages nurse staffing for all LOA sites. In addition, she is laboratory director for LOA and is responsible for maintaining CLIA certification.
LOA is proud to have a team of registered nurses who all have extensive experience in administering chemotherapy. All are ONS certified or working toward certification. They are knowledgeable of both the medications being administered as well as the disease process being treated. They are also available to answer questions over the telephone. All of our medical assistants are certified and licensed in phlebotomy, EKG, and Medical Assisting. They help evaluate patients and draw lab samples. They also help with injections.

LOA has a licensed dietician on staff to help cancer patients with dietary needs. The dietician can assist patients with nutrition counseling before starting chemotherapy, during and after chemotherapy. The dietician is also able to help with special diets to help with symptom management, weight loss/gain as well as counseling on other specific health conditions such as diabetes and anemia.
Valerie Miniex, LD is available on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday to provide counseling and education on any nutritional concerns a patient may have. She can be reached at 235-7898 ext 402.
