FAQs about the Games of Acadiana
How did it start?
The first Games of Acadiana (August 25, 2001) was developed by friends of Miles Perret. Miles, the son of Hank and Debbie Perret, succumbed to cancer at the age of 8.
The Games of Acadiana had a 5-year plan to open a Cancer Survivor Center as a clearinghouse for cancer services; but, thanks to the amazing success of the first Games and the generosity of Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center, Lafayette General Medical Center, Medical Center of Southwest Louisiana and Women's and Children's Hospital, the Miles Perret Center: Cancer Services for Acadiana was able to open four years ahead of schedule. The Center, located at 2130 Kaliste Saloom Road, may be contacted at (337) 984-1920 or 1-800-519-8748 or visit their website at www.milesperretcenter.org.
How does The Games raise money?
Two ways. First, local businesses and individuals are enlisted to generously sponsor each Game Day event and each Stand Alone event. Second, admission fees (from Stand Alone events) and donations, small and large, are accepted from participants and supporters.
What's been done with the money raised already?
The proceeds from the Games of Acadiana provide resources for Acadiana cancer patients and their families through
the Miles Perret Center. All of the money was, and is, dedicated to helping local families cope with cancer, and towards
funding local research to help discover cures.
Who decides how the money raised will be spent?
The Board of Miles Perret Cancer Services, which is comprised of a group of individuals from the medical, business, and philanthropic community of Acadiana. The Board is guided in these decisions by a group of medical professionals with the knowledge of the causes, prevention, and treatment of cancer, as well as the needs of cancer patients and their families.
How do I get involved?
There are plenty of ways. Become an event sponsor. Make a contribution of any size. Be a corporate or individual
underwriter. Be a volunteer. And....sign up to play!
